Celebrate Nurses by Building Understanding of Nursing!

Speaker: Sandy Summers, RN, MSN, MPH
Founder and Executive Director, The Truth About Nursing

Every day, nurses change the world. In this inspiring multi-media presentation, Sandy Summers, RN, MSN, MPH, founder and executive director of the Truth About Nursing, will help nurses celebrate the full value of what they do: Their astute observations, courageous interventions and bold advocacy help people live healthier and better lives. How can we make sure everyone understands the value of nursing? Research shows that the media plays a key role in shaping society's ideas about nursing and health. When nurses have a more active role in the media, it helps the world to understand health more as nurses do and to see nurses as the health experts they are. So much can be done to build on the media products that have already conveyed accurate information about nursing. Robust media depictions of nursing encourage talented people to enter the profession, enliven and strengthen practicing nurses, and motivate decision-makers to increase investment in nursing education, research, and clinical practice. Sandy Summers will explore proven strategies to help nurses reach out to the media with their vital perspectives on nursing and health. She also explains the many ways in which nurses can create their own media. We can empower nurses to improve safety for patients, improve nurse retention, and advance public health. Sandy shows you how!
