Speaking abstract:
Health care errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States and a drain on health care resources that is estimated at $4.7 trillion per year globally. But since studies show that two-thirds of health care errors are preventable, studies show, we can save lives and resources by analyzing why errors happen. And that means looking closely at nursing, as Sandy Summers, RN, MSN, MPH, shows in this lively presentation. Sandy, executive director of the Truth About Nursing, explains that nurses are the professionals who identify and prevent most health care errors before they happen. But nurses do not yet have the respect and resources they need to catch and prevent the rest, in large part because not everyone in the clinical setting understands the value of nursing. As Dr. Peter Pronovost of Johns Hopkins and others have shown, empowering nurses is a critical part of reducing errors in modern care settings. Nurses can be your indispensable partners in giving outstanding care. Sandy Summers will explore proven strategies to help medical professionals collaborate more effectively with nursing colleagues to reduce risks for your patients—and liability premiums for you.
