Problem:
Physicians undervalue nurses
Medical schools don't teach about what nurses do, their value and how to work with them.
Physicians think they are in charge of nurses and don't understand nursing autonomy.
Physicians think they prescribe all care that patients need, not understanding that nurses have nurse-prescribed work
Some physicians are verbally or physically abusive to nurses
Physicians chafe when nurses are given the media spotlight, they think it belongs to them and pressure public relations people to give it to them.
Physicians don't think nurses belong at the table.
See the:
The Physician Project
aimed at educating physicians what nursing is and why they should work more collaboratively with nurses.
