About the Authors of Saving Lives: Why the Media's Portrayal of Nurses Puts Us All at Risk

Saving Lives is co-authored by the leaders of The Truth About Nursing, the organization at the forefront of challenging and changing representations of nurses. Sandy Summers has led the effort to change representations of nurses in the media since 2001, when she and fellow graduate students at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing founded the effort. She has masters degrees in nursing and public health from Johns Hopkins and previously practiced in emergency departments and intensive care units of major trauma centers in the U.S. see her full biography...

Harry Jacobs Summers has been senior advisor to this effort nearly from its beginning and has been our principal writer. A former Fulbright scholar with degrees from Columbia and Georgetown, he practices law in Washington D.C. see his full biography...
