Agence France-Presse: "Nurses" selling cigars

July 13, 2003 -- Today's issue of Malaysia's The Star ran an AFP story originating in Bangkok reporting that Thailand's real nurses were "fuming" over an international cigar company's local outlet naming itself "The Nurse" and dressing its staff as nurses. Thailand's Nursing Council, representing about 140,000 Thai nurses, had released a statement arguing that continued use of the shop's name would confuse the public and hurt the professional image of nurses. The Nursing Council had asked the "upmarket" cigar shop to change the name and the uniforms, but had not yet received a response.

See the article in The Star entitled Nurses fume over cigar promotion.
